Covid Vaccine Scop Transdermal System Xyzal Zyrtec Preamble Post Marketing Surveillance, Pharmacovigilance, and Adverse Drug Reactions Reporting are tools through which adverse reactions are reported from various parts of the world. The activity is more seriously undertaken in the developed countries. The information thus collected is investigated in detail to see if the adverse reaction was caused by the drug or were other factors involved in the outcome. Credit: Franz van Heerden Credit: Pavel Danilyuk Preamble I have been personally involved in international pharmaceutical business for several years and here are my observation regarding poor export performance. Despite having a vibrant pharmaceutical industry with over 700 manufacturing units and a population of 240 million, Pakistan’s pharmaceutical exports remain frustratingly low. In 2023, the country exported medicines worth only around \$300 million — a figure dwarfed by Bangladesh (US$ 2.2 billion) and India (US$ 25+ billion). This underperformance raises a critical question: What is holding Pakistan’s pharma indust...

Credit: Jonathan Borba Credit: Pavel Danilyuk Credit: Tima Miroshnichenko Preamble In the early 2000s, Ranbaxy Laboratories was a shining star of the Indian pharmaceutical industry. As one of the largest producers of generic drugs globally, Ranbaxy played a key role in making medicines affordable for millions of people across the developing world. But behind the scenes, the company was engaging in widespread fraud that would eventually shake the foundations of trust in generic medicines. The Ranbaxy scandal, which came to light in the late 2000s and culminated in a record $500 million settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice in ...

Vioxx Pack Credit: Anna Shvets Credit: Engin Akyurt Preamble Pharmaceutical business is like any other business where profit comes first. If businesses were left unchecked to do as they desired, which is still the case for many businesses worldwide, and for most businesses in badly managed countries like ours, they would do indescribable things, including but not limited to killing people. Pharma industry is ruled by Big Pharma internationally. There are Big Pharma companies locally also, but they are so small as compared to the real Big Pharma.  Big Pharma has been involved in criminal concealment of evidence and facts about their product...

Pharma Veterans Blogs are published by Asrar Qureshi on its dedicated site https://pharmaveterans.com. Please email to aq.pharmaveterans@gmail.com for publishing your contributions here. Credit: Anna Shvets Credit: Eva Bronzini Pharmaceutical Marketing is a different type of marketing because the customer is not consumer. In all other commodities, such as food, appliances, textiles, shoes etc., customer and consumer are the same person, unless someone buys for someone else as a gift which is a fraction of total business. In Pharma marketing, customer is doctor and consumer is patient. Pharma companies are not allowed by law to approach patients directly for selling medicines. Nutritional supplements such as vitamins, health foods, probiotics, energy boosters etc., are not supposed to treat any disease and are therefore allowed to adv...

Bayer CEO - Bill Anderson Brief History of Bayer Bayer is a German chemical and pharmaceutical company which was founded in 1863 by Friedrich Bayer, who was a chemical salesman, and Johann Friedrich, who owned a dye company. Credit: Mikhail Nilov Credit: Pavel Danilyuk Credit: Polina Tankilevitch Periodically, I gather information and write a blog post about approval of new drugs in the USA, because it leads in the research, discovery, and commercialization of new, research products. Even if a pharmaceutical product is first registered in Europe, it is inevitably applied to USFDA for approval. USA also leads because it is the single largest market in the global pharma market. US accounts for about 47% of the world pharmaceutical market which is currently estimated to be about US$ 1.2 trillion. You can have an idea of the size.  The list of new drugs/ newer uses of existing drugs is given bel...

Credit: Alina Kurson Pfizer has recently launched (unleashed?) an aggressive campaign for its pneumonia vaccine PREVENAR13 (internationally PREVNAR13) for use in adults over 65 years of age. They have made emotionally charged advertisements in which their vaccine is being projected as the best gift for parents and grandparents. The emotion-soaked adverts make the audience feel guilty if they will not get their parents/grandparents vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine.
