Part 27

DAY 28 – 17 August 2019 – 16 Zilhajj 1440

Aziziya – Haram Shareef
Allah be praised.
Allah blessed me with Hajj in 2005. I used to work in Jeddah at that time. On the first day in the office after Hajj, my office colleagues congratulated me profusely. Ahmed Shahzad, our then technical person, was also among them. He also congratulated me and then said, “please listen to this also”.
“A blind person was begging on the street. Some put money on his cloth, some didn’t. Meanwhile, a person came and rather than putting money, he took money and walked away. The blind beggar shouted to him from behind. ‘oye, Haji! Spare the blind at least’. The man returned and asked, ‘how do you know I am Haji?’ The beggar replied, ‘no one other than a Haji could dare to do so’.”
I fell to the ground and my aura of piety was shattered.
It is a sad fact that most of the people behaving unjustly and rather atrociously in their dealings, are Hajis. Be it business, or business partnership, or family affairs, or social matters; the unfairness prevails strongly and universally.
I cannot comment on why it is so.
May be, we get a sense of heightened security in our mind that we have done enough good by performing Hajj; few bad deeds will not hurt.
May be, our hearts are hardened because we believe we are more pious than others, and we have the right to treat them poorly.
May be, we are sure that all our sins of many years have been cleaned. We understand now how to get our slates cleaned. Whatever we do, we would get away with it.
May be, every Haji is targeted by Shaitan and it pushes them to do such heinous deeds which no one would do under normal circumstances.
Whatever the reason(s), it is not a highly respectable thing to be a Haji in Pakistan.
The way our people had started behaving right after Hajj, it looked like that, Allah forbid, we would see some addition among the perpetrators of injustice soon in our country. Allah Protect us. Aameen.
Apparently, it looks as if people with enough resources are able to perform Hajj and Umrah, whenever they so desire. As I mentioned earlier, it is my conviction that no one can set foot in Harmain Shareefain without Allah’s Permission. In that case, it looks like Allah gives more opportunity to resourceful people. This in some way appears to be a historical fact also. Allah had been giving extraordinary time and opportunities to people of influence, probably because their coming to the right path would influence many others. Take the example of Pharaoh (Fir’awn). They got multiple opportunities and warnings and small punishments so that they might accept the truth. They wasted all opportunities, remained willful and adamant on ‘kufr’ and were finally destroyed. Allah does not get disappointed early. Same is probably the case with ‘people of means’ in today’s world. Allah keeps giving extended time and many occasions to reform ourselves, till the time we prove unworthy of His Benevolence. And are subjected to the final punishment in this world.

Our Lord! You gave us the greatest blessing of our lives; Hajj. Please give us wisdom and courage to keep it the way it should be. Please guide us to change our hearts and our lives to your way. Please save us from the machinations of Shaitan. Aameen.
